Jump, Briony!
Jump! It’s really easy and safe – come on it’s fun!
Just do it!
Jump! It’s really easy and safe – come on it’s fun!
Just do it!
Briony looked down from the top of the 2m stepladder, at all the happy expectant faces in the swimming pool below.
She desperately wanted to do this. This was the great summer game of all the neighbourhood kids – climb to the top of the stepladder and jump – or dive, or somersault into the swimming pool below. She screwed up her courage – climbed to the top of the ladder – and then just couldn’t do it.
This repeated itself over and over again throughout the
summer. All the rest of the kids would
run up the ladder, and leap in with gay abandon – “Look, Briony, it’s easy!
Just do it!”.
But it wasn’t easy.
No matter how desperately she longed to jump, and no matter how many
people showed her how easy it was – she couldn’t bring herself to take that
step.
Briony never jumped.
When it comes to getting certain things done, I have been
exactly the same. I may ardently desire
to achieve things. I KNOW that if I “just
do it” everything will be easy – But I simply can’t take that step.
I am working on DEVELOPING methods to get myself unstuck and learn how to just jump in!
